What is 'impulse withstand voltage'? What does 'impulse withstand voltage' mean?

Definition

The maximum abnormal voltage that the Relay can withstand when the voltage surges momentarily due to lightning, switching an inductive load, etc. The surge waveform, unless otherwise specified, is the standard impulse voltage waveform according to JIS C5442,i.e., 1.2 x 50 μs.

General Purpose Relays
